The club by Harry’s Hospitality has already created a much anticipated vibe among Singapore’s cool hunters. This striking hotel is a result of a uniqe design brief working with award-winning Ministry of Design and Jane Yeo Design Consultants. From its impressive white facade to its tongue-in-cheek interpretations of Singapore’s colonial past, the club certainly embraces the rich Chinese heritage of its home on Ann Siang Road. The exciting design partnership presents a stylish pairing of east and west, monochrome and colour, minimalist and oriental.

Design Director and Founder of MOD, Colin Seah, comments: “In our spatial interpretations for the club, we aimed to evoke a sense of accessible elegance and modern authenticity that connects the modern traveler, with the heritage of the location without harping on the irrelevant past.”

Responsible for the iconic statue of Sir Stamford Raffles which greets the hotel’s guests in the lobby with its head literally in the clouds, MOD’s influence adds a subtle hint of humor to the club’s austere post-colonial exterior.

Complementing the though-provoking designs and monochromatic palette of MOD, is JYDC’s composition of oriental elements and rich hues. JYDC provides visual provocation with series of historic wood-carvings splashed in white, for a refreshing, modern twist. Standout featres such as the recreated traditional terrazzo flooring and antique pendant lamps also tell the story of the building’s legacy and the area’s heritage.

Henry Yong, Senior Designer of JYDC explains: “The rich oriental heritage of Ann Siang Hill and Chinatown takes center stage in our designs as an element that tourists and Singaporeans alike cannot ignore. You feel it from the traditional shop houses and time-honoured Hui Kwans that dot the streets, once inhabitet by the varied clans and immigrants with roots branching from China.”
