慧眼软装邀您共赏——Restaurant Noir by Nuca
Noir is a 146 square-meter restaurant in Piatra Neamt in the northeast of Romania. The task was to design a simple “warm and intimate” space, which would overlook the picturesque mountains with forests that are surrounding the city.
Wood was chosen by the client to be the main finishing material. Therefore authors executed in wood most of the floors, walls and furniture. But even though a beautifully done “wooden box” would have satisfied the function they managed to design more with the excuse to have the unique opportunity to experiment working with wood in such a sophisticated location.
For authors there was an inspiration in Helmut Lang’s sculptures. “Alles Gleich Schwer” was the name of the first institutionalized solo art exhibition by Helmut Lang. Among the exhibited pieces, the artist presented three sculptures showing vultures. These objects were covered with a black finishing that camouflaged the material of which they were made of. Finishing enhanced the geometry on one hand, but on the other hand, in order to reveal the real material of the sculptures, Lang carved out fragments and exposed the raw wood on certain spots.
Similar as approach of Helmut Lang, Nuca’s design was developed in horizontal segments of the above-mentioned “wooden box”. Their idea was to cover thick wooden panels with a thermoformed corian surface, which would be perforated by raw wood. The fascinating and beautiful contrast between the perfect smooth surfaces of the composite with the raw wooden intersections was the desired result that they wanted to achieve.
In the end, architects would like to express their big gratitude to the clients who had the courage to engage with what it turned out to be a high precision exercise although they could have had so many other easier options.
